WORLD CUP


It's time for World Cup!  The FIFA World Cup, or World Cup, is an international soccer competition by teams belonging to the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).  This tournament occurs every four years.  This year's tournament is being held in Russia.  Germany is looking to repeat as the champion after winning their fourth title at the 2014 tournament.

In order to compete, the teams must qualify.  The qualification process consists of international matches throughout the three years leading up to the World Cup.  This results in 32 teams competing in the tournament.  The tournament consists of a group stage in which teams then advance to the knockout round.

ELIZABETHAN ENGLAND

The Elizabethan era is the time in the Tudor period of England during the rule of Queen Elizabeth I.  It is often depicted as the golden age in English history.  During her reign, there was an increase in poetry, music, and literature; this is when William Shakespeare composed his plays.  This time also saw some peace between the Protestants and Catholics.

SUMMER READING

School is out, and summer vacation has begun!  Summer is a great time to read.  Whether you need something to occupy your time on a long road trip or as you sit by the pool, the library has something for you.  And, while you stop by the library, make sure you enter into the Summer Library Club.  Adult, teens, and kids each have their own reading challenge and reading records that will be available until August 18th.

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: VERONICA HENRY



The June Antemeridians book for discussion is How To Find Love in a Bookshop by Veronica Henry.  Henry grew up as an army child which resulted in her attending many different schools.  She attended Bristol University and worked as a Production Secretary and script editor before turning to writing.  She has written 19 novels and has written for newspapers and magazines.

How To Find Love in a Bookshop follows the owner of Nightingale books, Emilia Nightingale, who inherited the shop after her father's death.  As the story progresses, Emilia is approached by property developers pushing for her to sell the business, and she struggles to avoid the temptation to sell as she promised her father she would keep the store alive.  Along the way, we meet many loyal customers and learn how the bookshop has played a role in their lives.
