BOOK TO TELEVISION

We often talk about different movie adaptations of books.  And, when these discussions happen there tends to be a lot of strong opinions on which version is better.  The biggest complaint often centers around the movie leaving out different elements of the book.  This is understandable as most movies try to fit an entire book into a 2 hour film.  However, what happens when a TV series is created instead?  Are they more successful in bringing favorite characters to life?  Do they keep more of the original story in place?

Find out for yourself, by reading one of the books listed below and then watch its show.

Good Omens - This series was released in May on Amazon Prime.  It is based off the book of the same name written by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.  Some of the stars in this production are Jon Hamm, David Tennant, Michael Sheen, and Frances McDormand.

ASTROPHYSICS FOR PEOPLE IN A HURRY

This month's book club selection is Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson.  Every August, we read a work of nonfiction.  Astrophysics for People in a Hurry is written in short chapters to allow you to read about the universe as time permits.  It is supposed to be readable anytime and anywhere throughout your day.  And, hopefully, once you're done, you come away knowing just a little bit more about the cosmos.  This book was chosen due to the anniversary of the moon landing.

The United States' Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the moon; this occurred on July 20, 1969.  This means that we just celebrated the 50th anniversary of the moon landing!  To celebrate this event, and to compliment our book club discussion, we've put together a list of space-themed books for you to browse.

Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson
    Cosmos by Carl Sagan
The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene
    Infinite Wonder by Scott Kelly
One Giant Leap by Charles Fishman
The Future of Humanity by Michio Kaku
Our Sun: A Biography of a Star by Christopher Cooper
