Back to School Books!

Much as the weather would have us NOT believe it, the school year is just around the corner! Make going back to school an event with one of these fantastic school-themed picture books for preschoolers – late elementary school (let’s face it – I still love many of these stories!).

Here’s a roundup of our favorite school stories:

Of course, there are so many good chapter books about school too, there’s almost too many to list! Here’s a sampling of some favorite school-oriented book series we have in our library:

Just a reminder that the library is CLOSED on Monday, September 2nd for Labor Day. We will be open at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3rd. Have a good last week of summer and come visit us soon!

Books About Bedtime

This week Eager Free is super excited to welcome Rock County author (and library staff member!) Jamie Swenson to our program room this Wednesday. Jamie will lead a fun, interactive story time for our toddler and preschool age patrons.

Jamie's book is called Boom! Boom! Boom! and it's about a child who goes to bed on a stormy night with a teddy bear and a book, but is soon joined by a dog, a cat, and more until there's no more room! The lively text and fun illustrations by David Walker make this a charming story to share with your little ones, and the rhyming, rhythmic text makes it a soothing story for bedtime (especially on a stormy night!).

To celebrate Jamie's visit to Eager Free, I thought it'd be fun to post a little roundup of some other books about bedtime that we have here in the library.

The following titles can be found right in our handy BEDTIME bin in the red picture book section:
I hope you can join us for stories and activities with Jamie this Wednesday at our usual preschool storytime: 10:00 a.m. in the downstairs program room!

Celebrating Shark Week 2013

Photo of the Discovery Channel Headquarters in Silver Spring, MD decorated with a fake shark as part of Shark Week. Taken July 12, 2010.
Since 1987, the Discovery Channel has celebrated the end of summer with Shark Week, a weeklong programming extravaganza chock-full of oceanic beasts that are usually monstrously hungry for human blood. In honor of Shark Week 2013, we bring you a roundup of shark-infested movies that are available here at the library – plus some other titles that are less bloody but still nautically inclined. Call us to pull one of these titles on hold today!

And other ocean-related materials for your listening, viewing, and reading pleasure:
