NATIONAL S'MORES DAY

Happy National S'mores Day!  August 10 recognizes a popular bonfire treat: the s'more.  S'mores are made up of a roasted marshmallow and a layer of chocolate sandwiched between two pieces of graham cracker.  Of course, you can always create your own spin on this classic treat such as spreading peanut butter on the graham crackers, substituting caramel filled chocolates in place of the chocolate bar, adding banana slices, or replacing the graham crackers with cookies.  The options are endless!

To help you celebrate, here are a few book lists to help you on your s'more adventure.

S'more Cookbooks:

General Dessert Cookbooks:

Children's Fiction About Marshmallows:

Looking for bonus activities to celebrate National S'mores Day?  Here are some things you can do with your leftover marshmallows.

Marshmallow Stamps - Use the marshmallows as a round stamp to create a masterpiece.  You can dip the marshmallow in paint or on inkpads.

Map the Night Sky - Head outside with some marshmallows and toothpicks and explore the sky.  Look for different constellations and create them out of your supplies, or make up your own constellations.

Build with Marshmallows - Use toothpicks or spaghetti noodles and marshmallows to build structures.  Let your imagine run wild as you create your ideas.

Paint - Create paint out of your marshmallows!  All you need is marshmallows, water, light corn syrup, and food coloring.  Sample instructions can be found here.
