Nonfiction Wordle

The online puzzle game Wordle seems to be all the rage lately! If you somehow haven't heard about it or played it yourself, check it out here. It's simple, fun, gets you thinking, and won't drain hours from your day. In the game you have to try to figure out what the five letter word of the day is. We worked our way through our Adult Nonfiction section to find some five letter book titles. Maybe the title itself or what's written inside will help expand your vocabulary and guess the next day's Wordle word faster! Good luck!

Un-brr-lievable Picture Books

It's January in Wisconsin and we might as well embrace the cold and snowy weather! Remember how exciting and magical snow was when you were a kid? You could build a fort, make a snowman, throw it, and even taste it. As an adult it can be hard to remember that snow and ice can actually be a lot of fun. (Not just a dangerous annoyance!) So, grab one of these Wintery picture books, snuggle up with your kiddo and try to find that sense of wonder again.

Get Your Shelfie On!

Next time you visit the library in January, you can challenge yourself to our Shelfie Scavenger Hunt! Wait a second, what in the world is a Shelfie?! Basically, it's a bookshelf selfie! In fact, there's an entire day dedicated to library Shelfies. The New York Public Library founded Library Shelfie Day and it is celebrated each year on the fourth Wednesday in January. (January 26th this year.) Booklovers of all kinds are encouraged to show off their creatively arranged or just plain pretty bookshelves in a, yep you guessed it, Shelfie on social media using  #LibraryShelfieDay. So, what's the deal with this scavenger hunt? Here's everything you need to know!

How to Play:
Find the Shelfie Display corresponding to each of the National Days listed below. The Shelfies are small horizontal stacks of books with the same genre, subject or word in the title. Take a selfie with each Shelfie you find. Find them all and you will earn a super cool sticker for your laptop or water bottle. Just show a librarian your Shelfie Selfies to get your prize. Note: The Shelfies are scattered throughout the library!

Shelfie Displays:
1. January 2nd - Science Fiction Day
2. January 4th - Trivia Day
3. January 6th - Bean Day
4. January 10th - Save the Eagles Day
5. January 17th - Martin Luther King Jr. Day
6. January 18th - Winnie the Pooh Day
7. January 25th - Florida Day
8. January 27th - Chocolate Cake Day
9. January 29th - Seed Swap Day
10. January 31st - Inspire Your Heart with Art Day

Want to Earn an Extra Sticker?
Create your own Shelfie Display from books at home as an expression of yourself. Take a photo of your Shelfie and share on social media using #EFPLLibraryShelfieDay. Show your post or photo to a librarian to get your bonus sticker.

Have fun and good luck with your hunt!
