Author Spotlight: Elizabeth McCracken

Our Bookaholics Book Club is getting together on Wednesday, May 15 at 6:30pm in the Library's Multipurpose Room to chat about Bowlaway by Elizabeth McCracken. Here's a summary of the book to get you interested: From the day she is discovered unconscious in a New England cemetery at the turn of the twentieth century - nothing but a bowling ball, a candlepin, and fifteen pounds of gold on her person - Bertha Truitt is an enigma to everyone in Salford, Massachusetts. She has no past to speak of, or at least none she is willing to reveal, and her mysterious origin scandalizes and intrigues the townspeople, as does her choice to marry and start a family with Leviticus Sprague, the doctor who revived her. But Bertha is plucky, tenacious, and entrepreneurial, and the bowling alley she opens quickly becomes Salford's most defining landmark - with Bertha its most notable resident."

We have copies of the book in regular print, large print, and on audiobook available for check out at the upstairs desk.

If  you enjoyed Bowlaway, try one of Elizabeth McCracken's other books. You can find out more about these books or place a hold on them by clicking on the links below.

"Raft of Stars"

Our Antemeridians Book Club is back this month! They will gather on Thursday, April 18 at 10:30am in the Multipurpose Room to chat about Raft of Stars by Andrew J. Graff. We still have regular and large print copies available at the upstairs desk if you need one to check out.

If you're wondering what the book is about, here's a short and sweet summary: When two hardscrabble young boys think they've committed a crime, they flee into the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Will the adults trying to find and protect them reach them before it's too late? We hope to see you at Book Club to hear all about what you thought about this book!

If you enjoyed Raft of Stars, Andrew J. Graff's new book True North came out earlier this year. This is a heartfelt novel of marriage and whitewater rafting, following one couple as they navigate the changing currents of family, community, and the river itself.
