Playaways

Did you know that we recently added Playaways to our collection? Wait a second, what in the world is a Playaway anyway? According to their website, "Playaway is the pre-loaded audiobook that gives library patrons the portability and freedom to take audiobooks everywhere. No connectivity or downloads needed  - ever." So basically, it's a little audiobook that you take with you anywhere, whether you are driving, running, or just relaxing. How cool is that? With so many newer cars no longer having CD players, this is a great option for people who enjoy listening to audiobooks on their commutes.

You can browse our current collection of Playaways online here. If you are on the hunt for Playaways while visiting the library, you will find them near the CDs and audiobooks. Go ahead and give one a try! It just might be your new favorite way to enjoy a book!

We Don't Talk About Bruno...but We Should!

The Disney movie Encanto has been all the rage for awhile now. Underneath the bright colors, fun animation, and incredibly catchy songs is of course a dysfunctional family. SPOILER ALERT! Basically, the Madrigal family in the movie has magical powers, but they don't quite understand or appreciate one family member's powers. Bruno becomes the black sheep, goes into hiding and they don't even talk about him. Well, that doesn't pan out so well since eventually everything starts falling apart. Moral of the story: it's important to talk with your family members about issues and work together to find a solution before things get to that falling apart stage. All families are dysfunctional in some way, because that's just how life is. Maybe you can relate to one of the dysfunctional families in the books below and become inspired to finally talk about the Bruno or issue in your family.

On a lighter, more fun note...You can also send your kiddos to the library today (Monday, April 18) at 10:00am for an Encanto movie sing-a-long! They will even be able to discover what their own magical powers might be!

Unicorny

There seems to be a national holiday for practically everything nowadays, so why not one for unicorns? April 9 just so happened to be that ultra-magical day. What is it about unicorns that fascinates people of all ages? Maybe it's the fact that even though they are often brightly colored and sprinkled in glitter, they are known to be strong and fierce. Maybe people are drawn to unicorns because they seem to symbolize hope, love, and magic. No matter what the reason may be, unicorns seem to be forever popular. There are dozens of children's books out there featuring unicorns that have really good messages for kids or are just bursting with rainbow glittery fun. Below are some that you will find at EFPL.

National Library Week

Happy National Library Week! According to the American Library Association, "National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities." This year's NLW theme is "Connect With Your Library," which is very fitting. Due to service changes during the pandemic, many children, teens, and adults may have lost that connection they once felt with their library and the people who work there. We encourage you to stop in to reconnect with us and all that is the library world. As National Library Week Honorary Chair, Molly Shannon, explained in the graphic to the right, libraries are so much more than just books. We are places to gather and connect with people, as well as information, both near and far. We offer a sense of community and a safe place for patrons of all ages. And yes, we have so many great books, movies, audiobooks, CDs, magazines, etc. to offer you. We are striving to slowly and safely get back to the level of service our community needs. Check out our website, Facebook, and Instagram to stay up to date on all that we have to offer you in the coming weeks. We hope to connect with you soon.
