WONDERLAND

I am a huge fan of Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles, so when her new book came out, I knew I had to read it.  Meyer's latest, Heartless, is the origin story of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland.  Did you ever wonder why the Queen of Hearts was such a terror?  Heartless tells us the story of Catherine, a talented baker who has no interest in becoming a queen and what happens to change all of that.

Want more Wonderland?  Give one of these books a try!

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll - This is where Wonderland begins. Alice in Wonderland was published in 1865, and in 1871, Carroll published the sequel, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There.  Both stories follow a girl named Alice and they both play with logic and riddles.

Splintered by A.G. Howard - Alyssa Gardner, a descendant of Alice Liddell, fears she may be mentally ill until she discovers that Wonderland is real.  If she can pass a series of tests, she may be able to fix Alice's mistakes and save her family from their curse.

Alice I Have Been by Melanie Benjamin - This novel follows Alice Liddell as she looks back on her life: a childhood in Oxford to becoming a widowed mother.  She thinks about who she is and how she became immortalized as Alice in Wonderland.

After Alice by Gregory Maguire - When Alice went down the rabbit hole 150 years ago, she found Wonderland.  But, what about the world she left behind?  How did that world react to her disappearance?  Ada, a friend of Alice's, is on her way to visit her friend when she falls down the rabbit hole herself.  She sets out to find Alice and return home from the surreal world of Wonderland.

Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter - Alice Bell's life changes in a heartbeat.  That's all it took to turn things from blissful to tragic.  Her father had been right; the monsters are real.  In order to avenge her family, Alice must learn to fight the undead, and to survive, she must learn to trust Cole Holland.

The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor - After her evil aunt kills her parents and takes the throne, Alyss Heart is forced to flee from Wonderland.  She escapes to Victorian Oxford and lives as Alice Lliddell while she waits to return to Wonderland and claim her rightful throne.

The Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes - This is the story of the Queen of Hearts.  In this version of Wonderland, Dinah is the princess who will one day rule Wonderland.  She has yet to see the darkness of her kingdom, and she only longs for her father's approval and a future with the boy she loves.  When a betrayal breaks her heart and threatens her throne, she is thrust into Wonderland's dangerous political game.  She must stay a step ahead of her enemies to keep her crown and her head.
